Pool is released due to OM error: ‘It is a pity and cannot be turned back’ Inland

The man had been in extradition detention since November last year. The court in Amsterdam allowed the man to be handed over to Poland for trial in May, but the actual surrender was not forthcoming.

The Public Prosecution Service is legally obliged to request an extension of the detention every thirty days. This is certainly customary for foreign suspects, in order to prevent them from evading trial.

Submitted too late

During a court hearing on Wednesday afternoon, lawyer Herman Loonstein discovered that the Public Prosecution Service had submitted that claim a day late. The public prosecutor was left with no other option than to ask for the detention of the detention request with the blush on his jaws.

The Public Prosecution Service confirms the error. “It’s a shame and there’s no turning back.” According to the spokesman, surrender to Poland is still possible, but the Pole can no longer be detained to prevent him from running away. “He has been identified in Europe,” said the spokesman. The man was immediately released.
