A 45-year-old man from Poland is suspected of beating a compatriot to death with bricks on August 12 on Ermerstrand in Erm. The victim was also stabbed with a sharp object. The man denies and remains silent about the incident.
Today was the first public introductory session. The man appeared, along with his lawyer. The case has not yet been dealt with substantively. Not all reports are in yet. So far, the man answered the questions with “I don’t know” or “I decline the question”.
It is still unclear what happened that day at the recreation park and why it escalated so much. Also because the man remains silent about this. According to the judge, there is a lot of incriminating material against the suspect. “It is your right to invoke your right to remain silent. I advise you to consider whether it is in your interest to remain silent,” said the judge.
The court not only looks at the evidence presented and what the witnesses say, but also wants to take into account the circumstances in which this incident took place. DNA traces of the suspect and the victim were found on the bricks and parts of the knife.
The man will remain in custody until February 7. This is followed by a second introductory session. The substantive hearing is scheduled for April.
