A number of ponies in a meadow on the Weteringstraat in Teeffelen (municipality of Oss) stood without water in the blazing sun all day on Monday. Passers-by were concerned and already called several emergency services, but the animals were left to fend for themselves.
“I have already bought 25 liters of bottles of water from the supermarket, but it does not help, that container will be empty again,” says Robin, who prefers not to be called by her last name. When she first passed the meadow while running on Monday morning, she was shocked by what she saw. “Those animals stood with their foals in the blazing sun, had no shelter and almost no water.”
“They were all very thirsty over an empty water bowl.”
She called the animal police, who reported it and indicated that if nothing had changed in the afternoon, she should call 911. She did so a few hours later, but when she went to check again in the afternoon, the animals were still there and had no water to drink.
“They were all very thirsty over an empty water bowl.” Robin is not the only one who cares about the suffering of the animals. There is a note from a passer-by on the gate of the meadow: ‘Farmer take better care of your ponies (…), It is not to look at the way your ponies are walking around’.
“I wonder how those ponies are going to make it tomorrow without anyone looking after them.”
Robin then decided to take action himself and to get bottles of water. “But that is impossible, because there is little water in the area. I wonder how those ponies will manage tomorrow, without anyone looking after them. Then it will be critical.”
While the reporter of Dtv News is talking to Robin, the police suddenly arrive. He indicates that they also took a look on Monday afternoon, but that no one was present at the time. The police will investigate who the animals belong to and the ponies will be monitored all day on Tuesday.
