Braunschweig (dpa) – Bundesliga soccer club VfL Wolfsburg and his former player Marin Pongracic meet in court. The central defender (24), who was loaned to Borussia Dortmund until the summer, has sued the club for payment of 250,000 euros.
A corresponding procedure is pending at the labor court in Braunschweig, and a conciliation date is scheduled for the beginning of March, as a court spokesman confirmed on Friday. The “Sports Buzzer” reported about it first.
The reason for the dispute is a bonus for qualifying for the Champions League, which Lower Saxony had managed as fourth in the table last season. Wolfsburg believe that Pongracic has waived any right to bonus payments by suspending his contract with VfL. “From our understanding of the law, the situation is clear,” said VfL managing director Jörg Schmadtke to the “Sportbuzzer”. Pongracic is under contract with VfL until June 30, 2024.
