Politicians Zoff about Neukölln’s Späti raids

The Senate wants to fight clan crime with major raids on late night shops, barbershops and shisha bars. On Monday, the topic caused Zoff in the interior committee.

For months, the police, public order office, tax office and customs have been checking tradespeople in Neukölln. This is what composite operations mean in official German. Weapons, drugs and stolen goods are regularly found.

► “There is agreement to continue these operations,” said Secretary of State Torsten Akmann (57, SPD).

► Criticism comes from the left. MP Niklas Schrader (40) considers the operations to be disproportionate and discriminatory.

► “We cannot understand the assumption,” says Frank Balzer (57, CDU). “The police work according to the applicable law, the operations are successful. They must continue to be carried out!”

► Also thinks the SPD. Interior expert Tom Schreiber (43): “It is important that the rule of law is active! Neukölln is a pioneer, I would like to see more joint operations throughout Berlin.”

► Green politician Vasili Franco (29) suggested expanding the missions: “You can ask yourself whether you should prioritize shisha tobacco or money laundering through real estate!”
