On holiday on the other side of the world, soaking in a Mexican infinity pool, it’s nice not to have to deal with the news and the fussiness that you normally have to follow closely as a journalist and columnist. That worked out pretty well. But unfortunately there are annoyances of such a high caliber that they even manage to reach you with an ocean in between. This year the bluebottle in my watermelon smoothie was State Secretary Maarten van Ooijen of the ChristenUnie.
