The decision of PvdA leader Lilianne Ploumen to step out of national politics with immediate effect has sparked many reactions. The PvdA site was soon overloaded and reactions poured in on Twitter. Colleague politicians praise Ploumen above all for her enthusiasm and commitment to people.
For Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Ploumen’s departure from national politics is unexpected. “Great respect for her honest decision and the conviction with which she acted politically. I keep the best memories of our cooperation in the Rutte II cabinet and afterwards. I wish her all the best.” At the time, Ploumen was Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.
VVD party leader Sophie Hermans tweeted: “Dear @PloumenLilianne, what a decision. And what a beautiful letter. I will miss you here in The Hague. In the debate where we had a lot of discussions, but much more at all those moments outside the debate. .”
Dignified farewell
D66 party chairman Jan Paternotte: “Very strong letter from Lilianne Ploumen, who is and remains a fighter for the progressive cause. It takes courage to do this. Lilianne, thank you for the cooperation, especially with our joint initiative for modernization of the abortion law!”
D66 leader Sigrid Kaag believes that Ploumen “will say goodbye to politics in a dignified way. Her departure from the House is a loss for the progressive Netherlands. Lilianne, be well!”
