Politicians from the Greens are calling for the concert to be canceled

Two Rammstein concerts in Vienna are scheduled for July 26th and 27th. In view of the allegations against singer Till Lindemann and keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz, this has triggered violent protests in the Austrian capital. The women’s spokeswoman for the Viennese Greens took a stand and demanded that the gigs be canceled.

Women’s spokeswoman Meri Disoski: “Sexualized violence is played down at Rammstein”

Meri Disoski, women’s spokeswoman for the Greens in Vienna, wrote a letter to the public. She calls on the organizers to cancel the concert. A petition with 17,000 votes should underline this project even further. In addition, Disoski accuses those involved of putting profit before the safety of women: “[Rammstein], the organizers and the stadium operators are putting their own financial gain ahead of the urgently needed clarification of serious allegations. In this way, sexualized violence is played down, even tolerated, and the women who testify are laughed at scornfully.”

Disoski and her party colleague Viktoria Spielmann also point out that although artistic freedom is a great asset in society, it does not excuse texts and actions that glorify violence. The previous presumption of innocence is also not a free pass for Lindemann and his band: “Protection zones for women cannot be the answer if the allegations of abuse are so serious that the Berlin public prosecutor is now investigating Till Lindemann,” the letter continues. Disoski and Spielmann also called for a protest on July 26 before the concert in the Ernst Happel Stadium.

Rammstein have indirectly commented on the allegations in the past few days. Singer Till Lindemann, for example, said goodbye to the audience after the third concert in Berlin (July 18) with the words “You don’t believe bad tongues, the truth will come out anyway”. The band also released a statement from Lindemann’s lawyers on their Instagram account. This is about the “Rammstein” reporting in “Spiegel”. Before Rammstein play their concert in Vienna, they will perform in Paris on July 22nd.
