Politicians condemn death threats towards writer Pim Lammers from Norg

Politicians in The Hague have spoken out against the death threats towards writer Pim Lammers. Lammers, who grew up in Norg, announced yesterday that he was retiring as the writer of the Children’s Book Week Poem 2023 after receiving death threats.

“Free speech is a great asset in our constitutional state. Only the judge sets limits. Death threats are unacceptable.” Prime Minister Mark Rutte said this in a response on Twitter.

Earlier today, Secretary of State for Culture and Media Gunay Uslu tweeted that “Death threats against writers, artists and creators are unacceptable, regardless of how you interpret their work or what you think of it. The ease with which people play prosecutor and judge from behind their screens , is worrisome and harmful,” said Uslu.
