Policy agreement focuses on issues such as climate, participation, housing and finance | NOW

The policy agreement that GroenLinks, D66, PvdA and the CDA have concluded after a few weeks of negotiations is called ‘Living together in Leiden† The motto of the new Leiden city council is very similar to the previous slogan, but gives a slightly different accent to the policy agreement that was presented on Wednesday morning in the De Lakenhal museum. However, the new coalition still wants to realize their plans together with the city. That’s in the 32-page chord.

As might be expected, much attention is paid to participation in the agreement. There has been a lot of criticism of this in recent years and the new college intends to do better. For example, the four parties want to show themselves a lot in the city and the residents are involved in the large and small challenges.

“We make it clear in advance what Leiden residents can expect from us. This does not mean that the strongest sound is always the best for the city. You can expect us to carefully consider what is good for the majority of residents and the importance of a smaller group of people. And we also explain this consideration.”

Other spearheads in the agreement are accelerating the energy transition, providing sufficient affordable housing in a fair housing market and sufficient space for all kinds of activities by focusing on more sustainable mobility. Above all, Leiden must remain a social city where everyone can be themselves and where loneliness is actively combated. As an international city of knowledge, Leiden will also continue to offer plenty of space for the Bio Science Park, all types of education and culture.
