The police unions, Minister of Justice and Security Yeşilgöz-Zegerius of Justice and Security and Chief of Police Van Essen today signed the new police collective agreement. The salaries of police personnel are increased by an average of 9.5% over 2.5 years. In addition, executive police officers receive a temporary financial compensation for the aggravating working conditions, including extra irregular shifts, as a result of the understaffing of the force. Agreements have also been made about vitality and sustainable employability, working differently and mobility, capacity and employability and career prospects.

The understaffing of the police, the great reliance on the police by society, all of us, deserves a substantial pay rise. But also agreements about good opportunities for further development. In this way we make the police an attractive employer in this tight labor market.”

Salary

During the term of the collective labor agreement, the following salary increases will be implemented: as of January 1, 2022, the monthly salary of all employees will be increased by €100. This will be followed by a salary increase of 2 percent from 1 July 2022, a salary increase of 3 percent from 1 January 2023 and a salary increase of another 2 percent from 1 January 2024.

Compensation for understaffing

On top of these salary increases, police officers in the field of execution who have been classified up to and including scale 9 in the years 2022, 2023 and 2024 will receive a temporary financial allowance. The allowance is intended for aggravating working conditions and irregularities as a result of the understaffing of the corps. The allowance can amount to an amount of € 2,500 per year. In addition, the labor market position of the police is strengthened by increasing the compensation for aspirants in the first year of training.

After a negotiator’s agreement between the minister, the unions and the corps leadership was concluded on 4 May, a large majority of the members of the unions approved the agreement. The collective labor agreement could therefore be formally signed today. The agreement runs from January 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024.
