Police training car rams public bus in Aalsmeer: ”We are just people”

A police training car rammed a scheduled bus yesterday afternoon at the intersection of Burgemeester Kasteleinweg and Legmeerdijk in Aalsmeer. The Aalsmeer/Uithoorn unit announced this in an Instagram.

“So you see, an accident can happen in a small corner and it also happens to the police, just like people ;)”, writes an officer with a photo of the heavily damaged police car that was involved in the accident.

Officers from Aalsmeer/Uithoorn went to the intersection to support their colleagues in the police car involved. They also controlled traffic around the intersection. Investigation has shown that the police training car caused the accident. The driver should have given the bus priority.

“The colleagues came from another unit and were not known in our area,” the Aalsmeer/Uithoorn team explains the accident. “Luckily they were driving gently.” Ultimately, the officers only caused material damage to their own car and the scheduled bus. No one was injured. “The bus driver and travelers are just shocked.”

Accidents regularly occur on the Burgemeester Kasteleinweg (N196). These usually take place on ‘complicated roundabouts’. Motorists especially have difficulty with the bus lane that runs through the middle of five roundabouts. A bus lane also runs across the intersection at the Legmeerdijk.
