Police thank rescuers of mother and children from car that ran over the water

Motorists who drove near the A10 yesterday played a hero’s role. This is evident from a message from the police on Instagram.

Around 11 a.m. a driver of a car lost power over the wheel. The car, which also had her two small children in it, ended up upside down in the water and quickly filled with water.

“Drivers who see the drama unfold before their eyes don’t think twice,” an agent writes in the Instagram post. “They run from their vehicles and dive into the water. The men manage to push the car onto its side with combined forces. They try in vain to smash the windows and open the doors, while the car fills up and fills with running water.”

One of them eventually manages to break a window. Initially, only a hand of the mother can be seen. One of the children is still with his head under water. Finally manage to get the three out of the car. Then the emergency services arrive. According to the agent, the men do not realize what they have done at first.

“As the effect of the adrenaline wears off and they hear themselves and each other say what they have done to each other, the realization slowly trickles in. Without their help, the mother and her children would not have recounted this,” the agent writes. “The first tough man breaks and the others fight against their tears too. Victim Support takes care of them.”

The mother and children were taken to hospital. The motorists who rescued them were allowed to go to the police station, where the good outcome was celebrated. The mother hopes to meet the men soon.
