Police shoot at armed TBS prisoner who went missing from clinic

An armed TBS prisoner was injured by police shots during a chase near Hulten on Thursday afternoon. The 27-year-old man did not return to the mental health institution at the Vrederust Estate in Halsteren earlier that day. The police deployed a police helicopter and arrested the man after a long chase.

The client left in a car and also appeared to be armed. Near Etten-Leur the police saw the man driving and went after him. The chase went via Breda, Chaam and Baarle-Nassau. Finally he got stuck and took off. As he fled, officers shot the man on the grounds of a company on Broekdijk in Hulten in the municipality of Gilze en Rijen. This is close to the Het Groene Spoortje childcare center.

There were many police officers on the scene during the action. Including from the Special Interventions Service. The injured suspect was taken to hospital under guard.

The police searched for the missing TBS prisoner with a police helicopter on Thursday afternoon. He had not reported to the clinic after he was allowed to go outside earlier, a spokesperson for the clinic said. The spokesperson cannot say why the man was admitted to the clinic.

A week ago, a 75-year-old woman was found dead in Halsteren. A suspect who resided in the same institution was arrested for this purpose.
