The police in Leeuwarden writes Twitter that on Wednesday they came to the aid of a woman who was crying in the street. Fortunately, it turned out that nothing serious was going on. At least, it depends how you look at it: the woman turned out to be upset by a spider in her house.
Hold the spider!
“On 30/3 around 3.20 pm, colleagues saw a crying woman sitting on Tjerk Hiddesdwarsstraat. It turned out that there was a spider in the sink in her home that she was terrified of,” the police said. The officers were not afraid to lend a hand, much to the relief of the woman. “Colleagues caught the spider and brought it out,” the police concluded.

April 1st? Not for arachnophobes
The woman then dared to go back inside. It is not clear to the police which spider species it was. “But it was not poisonous in any case,” the police said when asked. The woman’s response may sound a little over the top to some people. And let’s be honest: it looks like an April Fool’s joke. But of course there is such a thing as arachnophobia, an enormous fear of spiders. And we have bad news for arachnophobes, because in the Netherlands we have more and bigger spiders than ever. Suddenly this police message doesn’t sound so crazy anymore… Hold the spider!
