Police raids in Amsterdam and Uithoorn in investigation into money laundering and drug trafficking

The police raided Amsterdam, Uithoorn and 20 other places in the Netherlands and abroad this morning. The raids follow an investigation into a criminal organization engaged in money laundering and drug trafficking. A man was arrested during the Amsterdam raid.

A police spokesperson says that the Amsterdammer is suspected of participating in a criminal organization and trafficking in narcotics. The man was arrested during a search of a building somewhere near the Vondelpark.

A house has also been raided in Uithoorn and the police are taking a lot from the buildings. “At the moment everything is seized, administration, computers, telephones. I have no idea what has been seized so far,” she says.

Lots of detectives

In total, between 500 and 600 detectives worked on the case. “Then you can think of the people who are doing the raids today and who have done desk work before,” said the spokesperson. “Once this action is over, work will continue with a smaller team.”

Two years ago, the police received information about the drug trade, after which this investigation was started.

In addition to the suspect from Amsterdam, six people have also been arrested so far in Rotterdam, Bergschenhoek, Oostvoorne and Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel. The police have also raided Valkenburg, Montfoort, The Hague and Denekamp in Limburg. In Luxembourg and Serbia, properties are also searched. The police said on Twitter that the action will last all day.
