Police pursuit from Nieuwegein ends with crash after more than half an hour NOW

A police chase of more than half an hour ended on Wednesday evening with a crash on the verge of the A16 near Breda. Several units were involved in the pursuit, which started at Nieuwegein. The driver has been arrested.

The chase started in Nieuwegein around 8.55 pm when officers saw that the car was driving too fast. When the driver ignored their stop sign, the pursuit was started. The car drove onto the A2 towards the south, and later turned onto the A27 towards Breda. According to the police, the driver caused dangerous traffic situations along the way. For example, the suspect caused a collision on the A27, which resulted in no injuries.

The moment the car crossed the Brabant provincial border, ten vehicles from the Zeeland-West-Brabant unit joined the pursuing agents. Only near Breda, around 9.30 pm, did the car end up in the ditch. There were three people in the car. One of them suffered minor injuries from the accident.

A16 temporarily closed

The road was temporarily closed to the Galder junction after the chased car ended up in the verge. One lane reopened around 9:55 p.m. Police say the driver is suspected of driving under the influence and causing traffic disruption.
