According to the police, 200,000 participants marched through Berlin at the “Rave the Planet” techno parade on Saturday – and one or the other seems to have gotten pretty hot!
► The police initially gave no information on how many people had gathered to start in bright sunshine and high temperatures. There is still a strong influx, said a police spokesman. The authority announced on Twitter that the capacity utilization at the Brandenburg Gate was already very high. The train station will therefore be closed for safety reasons. Subways and suburban trains would no longer stop there, it said.
In the afternoon, the Berlin police asked “not to undress”, there had been complaints from participants.
The fire brigade drew a positive conclusion in the early evening. “Fortunately, the situation has been relaxed so far,” it said on Twitter. “Medical emergencies will be attended to by the organiser’s medical service. So far, “only” 12 people had to be transported to hospitals.”
And that despite the fact that the number of participants was corrected upwards again in the evening. At first there was talk of 130,000 ravers. Then it got crowded again and the Berlin police spoke of 200,000 participants.
Call for donations at the beginning
Inventor Dr. Motte welcomed the ravers at Großer Stern around 2 p.m. “Our motto: Music is the answer. Nice to see you!” He and his team spontaneously organized a private medical service. Up until a few hours before the start, the rave was on the brink.
“We’re still easily missing 150,000 euros,” says Motte and calls for donations.
For Berlin’s Senator for Culture, Joe Chialo, a piece of Berlin comes home with the Techno Parade. “I celebrate the music,” said the CDU politician at the start of the event. A little later he stood dancing in a blue floral shirt on the organizers’ parade float – and thus tied in with earlier experiences. “I’m someone who took part in the Love Parades here in Berlin back in the 90s. So I can say from my own experience how awesome it is and why it’s really great,” said Chialo.
“Rave The Planet” continues a tradition that has shaped the capital. In his speech at the start of the parade, the senator emphasized that the Love Parade was a “quintessentially Berlin event”. At the same time he said: “Berlin is a city of diversity, not of simplicity. We have no place here for anti-Semitism, racism and homophobia.”
The Berlin techno party follows in the footsteps of the legendary Love Parade by Dr. Motte in the Tiergarten on the Straße des 17. Juni between the Brandenburg Gate and the Großer Stern. The organizers had expected around 300,000 people in advance.
“Today, the city center belongs to the ravers,” the police finally said on Twitter. Around 1000 police officers are on duty.
There is no fixed stage at the parade registered as a demonstration. In addition to Dr. According to the information, Motte will be playing another 200 DJs. There are also 25 parade floats. Speeches are also planned. According to the organizers, the parade is intended as a “peace-building measure”.
Ambiguities in medical care
In the days before there had been a lot of confusion about the lack of contracts with medical services. On Friday it was said: A commercial medical service would take over the operations management. The organizers are thus fulfilling a condition imposed by the assembly authority, which means that the parade can take place. The organizers did not specify the name of the medical service.
However, the considerable costs for the medical service also put the organizers in a difficult financial situation. “Our non-profit GmbH will of course be affected, to a certain extent,” says Zeiss. Until recently, a commercial medical service was unaffordable for the organizers, which is why they started a call for donations.
