Police organize new action against distraction behind the wheel

“Research shows that 5 to 25 percent of all accidents are (partly) caused by a driver being distracted from the roadway,” the police said. In the previous action, in November 2022, 2,348 violations were detected and the driving licenses of 588 drivers were immediately withdrawn.

174 euros fine

The police also reminds of the regulations regarding mobile phone use in the car. A driver must not use, hold or handle an electronic device with a screen unless it is mounted in the vehicle’s designated holder. The immediate collection is 174 euros plus administration costs and the driving license can be revoked. In the case of a summons before the police court, the fine can be up to 4,000 euros.
