Police looking for officers: “staff shortage could mean a merger”
Until recently, the recruitment of police officers was done by the federal police. From now on, the zones will have to recruit staff themselves and that does not appear to be obvious, especially for the smaller zones.
“Too long procedure”
Police zone Midow has a staff shortage of ten percent. According to the chief of police, it takes too long for a selected officer to actually start training. “There is at least a year between the selection and the training.”
If the zones don’t find people, a merger is almost the only solution. Pz Midow now has five municipalities: Oostrozebeke, Dentergem, Ingelmunster, Meulebeke and Wielsbeke.
On Thursday evening, Midow organizes an information moment for future agents. This at 19.30 along the Tieltsteenweg in Oostrozebeke.
