Police investigate racist messages from officers, four of whom are not working for the time being

Four police officers shared posts on X “that could be considered discriminatory, racist and unprofessional,” reports the central Netherlands police Saturday. Pending investigation into the messages, three of them have been suspended from office and the fourth has been placed on special leave. The leave is a less severe measure, a spokesperson says NRCbut both sanctions mean that the officers are not allowed to work for the time being.

These are comments that the officers posted “over a longer period” under news items on X, the spokesperson said. The number of messages involved, when exactly they were posted and what they contained has not been disclosed. “But they are so serious that we are now taking all these measures.”

“As a police officer, you also keep your job in your spare time,” says the police spokesperson. “You have taken the oath of office, which states that you must behave decently. Statements that could be considered discriminatory are therefore unacceptable.”
