Gino van der Straeten was last seen with his scooter in a playground in Kerkrade on Wednesday evening. The police take into account a crime, but do not rule out other options.
‘Dangerous’
Head of the Limburg criminal investigation department Danny Frijters: “We are about to enter the second night and that is of course always dangerous for a nine-year-old.” The fact that Gino would be with a family member is almost impossible. “We have good contact with the family and we also look at the investigation together. If Gino had been with family, we probably would have known that.”

About thirty to forty citizens gathered at the primary school De Steltloper on Thursday afternoon at 5:30 pm to look for the 9-year-old. That elementary school is a stone’s throw from where Gino was last seen; the playground between the Hertogenlaan and Zonstraat in Kerkrade. From there they search near and in the Berenbos. Along the way, several residential areas were passed. So far, the searchers have not found anyone. The scooter that the boy had with him is also missing.
Initiator Ramona Nyqvist says that it was decided in consultation with the police to start the search in the afternoon. “In the morning we got in the way of the researchers, we were told.”

The forest area around Rolduc was also searched. The action there has not yet yielded any results. The police also deployed a helicopter on Thursday evening. This has flown over Landgraaf for quite some time.

The police want to get in touch with a man who was near the playground on Wednesday evening. She emphasizes that this is not about a despised. At the same time there were also three children. Police have already spoken to the children, but not yet the man. Police say he may have important information about Gino’s disappearance.
