According to a police spokesperson, a report was received around five o’clock this afternoon about a conflict between several people, possibly involving firearms and stabbing weapons. The police arrived quickly and were able to arrest two men. At first they did not want to cooperate, after which the police held them at gunpoint. The spokesperson says that this is procedure.

However, the two men did not appear to have any weapons with them, the spokesperson said. They could continue on their way. Shortly afterwards, the police arrested another man and a stabbing weapon was found further away. It is not known whether this weapon also belongs to the last person arrested. This suspect is still in custody and the investigation is ongoing, the police spokesperson said.

Ronald Nordemann lives in Langestraat and was in the front row of the arrest: “I was working at home, at one point I heard screaming,” he told NH. “When I looked outside, I saw all the officers wearing bulletproof vests pulling their guns. It was a panicky situation.”

According to Ronald, everyone in the street ran in a different direction, and a shop also closed its doors. “I’ve never seen a situation like this before, I found it a bit scary myself,” he says.
