Police combination rammed after chase
At the intersection of the R8 and the A19 in the direction of Ypres, a French vehicle fled at high speed last night. The police chased the car, reaching speeds of up to 175 km/h.
A police combination from Grensleie Police Zone tried to block the car. The suspicious car came much faster than expected and rammed into the front of the police vehicle. The driver managed to maintain control and fled across the French border. Cars from Police Zone Vlas were able to avoid the hit-and-run combination and continued to the French-Belgian border. But because they cannot legitimately cross the border, their pursuit also stopped there.
The occupants of the fleeing vehicle were caught via radio contact between the Belgian and French police. Their motives are not yet clear, but the car was signaled internationally. The combination of Politizone Grensleie was no longer drivable and was towed away.
