The climate chaos group Last Generation announced on Friday Berlin Marathon to disturb on Sunday. On Saturday they received a visit from the police.
As the Klima-Kleber shared via
In an internal chat it was said that protest materials had been taken away – allegedly in connection with the general order that had been issued.
It says: “The police check people at the entrance and confiscate protest materials. So it’s better to leave your banners, stickers and high-visibility vests somewhere else and come along like this. But come over! The food from the Küfa looks great!”
Sturgeon actions announced for Sunday
“Because there seems to be a lack of clarity about this: Yes, we are interrupting the Berlin Marathon,” the climate group announced on Friday morning.
Almost 48,000 participants have registered for the 42.195 km run on Sunday (start at 9.15 a.m.) – long-distance legend Eliud Kipchoge (Kenya, 38) wants to tackle the world record in Berlin.
In order to be able to take quicker action against disruptors and blockers, the police issued a ban on undeclared demonstrations of the last generation in the marathon area two weeks ago.
This ban was published in the official gazette on Friday in the form of a so-called general order and applies from Saturday morning to midnight on Sunday.
One thing is certain, however: “Violations of this general order will be punished and will result in a high fine,” a police spokesman told dpa.
