Police are not (yet) allowed to use ‘killer robots’ in San Francisco | Abroad

There was a lot of fuss about the proposal and the city council took back gas. The police may purchase military equipment, but may not use robots. That matter was referred to a committee and will be put to a vote again later.

“Last week I supported the legislation despite ethical concerns. But since a week I’m not sure anymore. I don’t think armed and remote-guided robots would bring more security,” said City Councilman Gordon Mar.

Opponents feared an increase in police brutality and outlined a ‘Robocop’ future. There were protests during the city council and also earlier in the day.
