Pole vault: Lita Baehre easy to DM gold, World Cup and Olympic standard

The European Championship runner-up Bo Kanda Lita Baehre was a big favorite at the German championships – and the native of Düsseldorf delivered. With his height of victory he broke two norms.

Pole vaulter Bo Kanda Lita Baehre jumped in a superior manner to his fourth German outdoor title. The championship top favorite won on Friday (July 7th, 2023) on the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf with a strong 5.82 meters.

5.82 meters loose – 5.92 meters torn three times

In front of an atmospheric crowd of around 3,000 spectators, the 24-year-old not only won the seventh German Championship title of his career. The native of Düsseldorf, who started for Leverkusen, also made the norm for the World Cup this fall and the Olympics in 2024 clear with his performance. Lita Baehre managed the 5.82 as well as the 5.52 meters and 5.67 meters in the first attempt. However, the 2019 U23 European champion failed three times to set a new personal best of 5.92 meters. Personal best remains at 5.90 meters.

Silver and bronze to Zernikel and Ladwig

Second and third place went to Oleg Zernikel from Landau, who crossed a new personal best of the season with 5.52 meters. Third-placed Gilian Ladwig from Schwerin also jumped 5.52 meters, but had more failed attempts beforehand.
