The Eisbären Berlin have lost their last away game in the current main round of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). On Friday evening, the German champions lost 3:6 (0:3, 0:1, 3:2) to the Straubing Tigers. Jonas Müller, Frans Nielsen and Sebastian Streu scored for the capitals, who were already the winners of the main round before the game.
In front of 4574 spectators in the ice stadium at the powder tower, the Berliners determined the early minutes, but were unable to take advantage of clear chances. The hosts, however, converted their first opportunity and took the lead through a goal from Michael Connolly. After that, the Straubingers remained extremely efficient: Sandro Schönberger increased after a counterattack, Travis St. Denis scored on the power play just before the first break.
The polar bears also lacked determination and precision in the second third, while the home side extended their lead with a goal from Yannik Valenti. Only in the final section did the Berliners show their accuracy: Müller and Nielsen reduced the deficit.
However, Straubinger Taylor Leier ended Berlin’s comeback with his goal. After that, Streu scored for the polar bears before Leier finished the game again.
