The Eisbären Berlin are setting a high pace when putting together their squad for the coming season in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
Four days after the commitment of Fredrik Tiffels committed the DEL record champion Kai Wissman another national player who took second place with the German national team at the World Cup last weekend.
The 26-year-old returns to the Polar Bears from the Boston Bruins organization, for whom he played from 2014 to 2022, and will be given a long-term contract, the Polar Bears announced on Thursday.
“We are glad that Kai has decided to return to the polar bears. The contact with Kai never broke off last year,” said Eisbären sports director Stéphane Richer, “he’s one of the top German defenders, and he proved that at the World Cup.”
Wissmann moved from Schwenningen to Berlin at the age of 15 and made his debut in the DEL in October 2014. The 1.94 meter tall defensive specialist has already played 341 games for the polar bears, scoring seven goals and collecting 80 assists.
At the last World Cup, Wissmann scored once and provided the template for eight goals. With Wissmann, the polar bears already have 26 players under contract for the coming season.
