The Eisbären Berlin have also won their second away game within 24 hours. On Friday evening, the leaders of the German Ice Hockey League won 2-1 (0-0, 1-0, 1-1) at the Nuremberg Ice Tigers. Zach Boychuk and Nicholas Jensen scored for the capital city, who had already won 2-1 at EHC Red Bull Munich the day before.
In front of 3,899 spectators in the Nuremberg Arena, the Berliners concentrated largely on defensive work in the first third and were also able to survive a two-man situation unscathed. The guests were lucky, however, when Nuremberg attacker Daniel Schmölz only hit the post.
After the first break, the capital city did more on the offensive, created the first clear chances and benefited from a number of time penalties against the hosts: Boychuk scored the lead on the power play.
The Berliners were able to defend their lead for a long time, not least thanks to their strong goalie Tobias Ancicka, but Nuremberg equalized in the final section with a late goal from Tyler Sheehy.
However, it was the polar bears who brought it to a close: Jensen scored the acclaimed winning goal 28 seconds before the end of the game.
