Robert Lewandowski is missing on Saturday at Poland in the Nations League game against the Orange. The top striker of Bayern Munich is getting rest and is not part of the match selection of the Polish team, according to the selections published by UEFA on Saturday. Noa Lang and Vincent Janssen are missing from the Orange squad.
Polish national coach Czeslaw Michniewicz said at his press conference in De Kuip on Friday that Lewandowski’s participation was uncertain. The striker is unable to play four full games in two weeks after a long season with Bayern Munich.
The 33-year-old Lewandowski was already taken off on Wednesday against Belgium (1-6) to save him for the duel with the Netherlands. Poland’s all-time top scorer scored the only Polish goal in Brussels.
“But we would also like to have him there when we play against Belgium again on Tuesday in front of our own audience,” Michniewicz said on Friday. That appears to have made the difference. Krzysztof Piatek and Karol Swiderski are the only attackers in the Polish match selection for the duel with the Netherlands.
Noa Lang is not there against Poland.
Long passed at Orange
At Orange, national coach Louis van Gaal has referred Vincent Janssen and Noa Lang to the stands. The national coach had already announced at his press conference on Friday that Janssen would not play, because he had only reported in Zeist on Tuesday after his wedding in the United States.
Lang’s absence is striking. The Club Brugge attacker was still a basic player in the team on Wednesday, which won 1-2 against Wales thanks to a late goal by Wout Weghorst. Long was taken to the side a minute before time. He was not injured and also trained ‘just’ in Zeist on Friday.
Lang was the subject of conversation last week after a high-profile interview with the Belgian newspaper HLN† In it he announced his departure from Club Brugge. “Next season you will pray that there will be a Noa Lang walking around in Belgium, who can also play football as well,” he said, among other things.
