Poland goes to the polls after fierce campaign: “The most important elections since 1989, when communism ended”

Polling stations opened this morning in Poland for the parliamentary elections. More than 29 million eligible voters have been called to vote on the distribution of the 460 seats in the Sejm and the 100 seats in the Senate. The first predictions are expected after the polls close at 9 p.m. Many Poles feel that this is the most important election since 1989, the year that marked the end of decades of communism.
