At Niantic, the American publisher of the famous game ‘Pokemon Go’, 230 people are laid off. This concerns about a third of the staff.
Founder John Hanke explains that revenues had risen during the corona period, but then declined again. Moreover, according to the CEO, it has become more difficult to launch new games. Expenses and income must be brought back into balance.
Niantic scored a huge hit with ‘Pokemon Go’. Since its launch in 2016, the augmented reality game has been downloaded more than a billion times. “Pokemon Go” remains the priority for the company, Hanke said.
Niantic will close a game studio in Los Angeles. The ‘NBA All-World’ basketball game is discontinued and production of the announced game ‘Marvel: World of Heroes’ is discontinued.
