Podemos and IU reinforce their alliance at the gates of the electoral campaign

With their fists raised, several hundred citizens have chanted the word ‘unit‘ before a stage located in Madrid’s Plaza de San Ildefonso. From the stage they have corresponded the general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarraand the federal coordinator of UI, Alberto Garzon. The image of both leaders this Tuesday has been just that, that of unity, with mutual flattery and leaving aside the tensions that have been experienced in recent months in the space to the left of the PSOE. The photograph will be repeated ten times before the installation of the polls on 28-M.

Belarra and Garzón claim the “unity” of space and will start the campaign together in Valencia

On the occasion of the celebration of may 2a party in the Community of Madrid that commemorates the uprising of the population against the French invasion, Belarra and Garzón have attended the event ‘Madrid rises’ together with the candidates of United We Can for the Madrid Assembly and the capital city council, Alejandra Jacinta and Roberto Sotomayor, respectively. Both belong to the purple formation. Even so, the harmony with the IU leader has been full with several references to his achievements at the head of the Ministry of Consumption.

After very turbulent months in the space to the left of the PSOE due to the formation of Sumar, the project of the second vice president, Yolanda DiazThis photograph is important. Especially since Garzón is very close to the also Minister of Labor and has made it clear that her platform should not be seen as a “threat”, but rather as an opportunity. The IU leader has fully supported Díaz and attended his debut to announce his candidacy last month, while the purples refused to attend until they had a commitment on how the weight of each formation in Sumar will be measured.

Work together”

However, the electoral campaign will remove all such misgivings from the public sphere. The first test was given this Monday, when Díaz shared a space with the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, with the candidate of United We Can for the presidency of Madrid, Alejandra Jacinto, and other leaders of United We Can in the demonstration called by the unions. This Tuesday the first joint act of the leaderships of Podemos and IU took place for the regional elections of 28-M, to which 10 of the 12 communities presented together. The agreement has been impossible only in Asturias and Aragon.

The icing on the cake

One of the next acts in which they will share the stage again will be in 10 days, when the electoral campaign starts. Both Belarra and Garzón will go to Valencia to support their candidates for the Generalitat and the City Council, Hector Illueca and Pilar Lima, respectively. Later, both directions will participate in up to seven other joint events in the absence of confirming whether Garzón will also attend the closing campaign in Madrid that the purples have planned. It is in both territories where the most relevant struggles to the left of the PSOE take place, with Compromís in the Valencian Community and with Más Madrid in Madrid.
