Max Verstappen wins his fourth race of the season. In Barcelona, the Dutchman was the strongest – although it was due to a defect at Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari. It was far from smooth for Verstappen. Etienne Verhoeff talks about the weekend in Spain with Arjan Schouten, F1 watcher from AD Sportwereld in a new pit stop.
,,After a few laps you think this is going completely wrong with Verstappen”, Schouten looks back on the race from Spain. ,,The updates at Ferrari are working and Verstappen has problems with the DRS and is blown away. There will be some words about that afterwards. But it turned. Verstappen himself called it a race with two halves.”
In the other half it was a 1-2 for Red Bull and a victory for Verstappen. But Verstappen’s weekend was again not a perfect weekend. “Red Bull is fast. But the way they are performing this season, they would not have gotten away with that with a dominant Mercedes last year. He’s been hammering on preventing mistakes all weekend. Verstappen continues to emphasize that it must be better. That’s not surprising, because Ferrari has speed and secretly Mercedes is coming too.”
Nyck de Vries
Friday was a beautiful day for Nyck de Vries. The Dutchman made his Formula 1 debut in a Williams during free practice. ,,On Friday everyone is enthusiastic about Nyck de Vries. Would be crazy if they weren’t at Williams. And he has done well. He also knows how to present himself excellently next to the job. But a day later, Williams technical chief Dave Robson said that De Vries had done well, but he is not the only capable driver. You wouldn’t have wanted to hear that.”
They also discuss the race in Monaco and the future of Spa. The race in Belgium is also going to become Americanized. Listen to the entire podcast via AD.nl, the AD App and your favorite podcast platform.
