Plus size Tuulia’s wonderful style in pictures

Until almost thirty Tuulia Kovanen40, usually wore black, monochrome, covering clothes.

Today, he describes his style as colorful and cotton candy-like. A stylish woman loves glitter, sparkles, pastel shades and floral patterns.

Tuuli does not follow the dress code, but dresses exactly as she wants. The wind doesn’t care about the saying “widen the horizontal stripes” or other such tips.

For Tuulia, the most important thing is that the clothes feel comfortable to wear and please her own eyes.

– When you feel good and beautiful, it also shows on the outside.

He is comfortable with himself and his self-confidence can also be seen in his dressing these days.

However, this has not always been the case.

“I felt like I was the wrong type”

20 years ago, the image of the media was very limited, and Tuulia felt this was boring. When she was younger, she tried to lose weight numerous times to resemble the women in fashion pictures.

Shopping trips with friends made it difficult to be kind to one’s own body.

The friends easily found new clothes, but not Tuuli. Very rarely on shopping trips did you find an option of a suitable size or pleasing to your eye.

– It increased body anxiety. I felt like I was the wrong type.

Little by little, Tuuli started to think more acceptingly of herself. Things were made easier by, among other things, visits to relatives in the United States.

There, she easily found beautiful clothes of the right size for herself. Plus sizes could be found in almost every store. It was good for Tuulia.

Tuulia says that becoming a mother in 2008 also affected her relationship with her body a lot.

– The waiting time was wonderful for me, somehow the anxiety about my own body and the pressure to lose weight disappeared. It was allowed to be exactly as it is. With my daughter, my attitude towards my own body became gentler.

– I think a lot about what kind of model I want to give my child. We talk about bodies with love and gentleness, with respect for everyone.

In addition to this, participating in the Miss Plus Size competition in 2019 was a turning point. In the competition, he met a lot of wonderful women who are amazing with their own bodies.

The Miss Plus Size competition increased self-confidence and love for one’s own body. She was crowned the first hereditary princess in the competition.

– Fortunately, I dared to join and I was there exactly as I am, Tuulia sums up.

“The hem of the maxi dress touches the ground”

Before Tuulia covered her arms, stomach and round legs. She no longer feels the need to cover her body in any way.

– I know what kind of clothes look good on me. I want to emphasize my best sides with clothes.

Tuulia, who is 155 centimeters tall, dares to show her legs today, even though they are not the longest. It’s nice to be short from Tuuli, although this is sometimes a shame on shopping trips.

He rarely buys pants, because they don’t feel like his thing. Pants are by no means the only problem for a short woman.

– In a maxi dress, the hem goes along the ground, she laughs.

On women, skirts and dresses look longer than planned. Fortunately, however, a professional seamstress helps if and when hems or legs need to be shortened.

Tuulia prefers dresses and combinations of skirts and shirts when dressing the most.

Sometimes, however, a beautiful dress has been left on the store shelf, because the garment has felt uncomfortable to wear due to the breasts and hips tightening.

– A few clothes have been left in the store because they haven’t caught the breasts.

Sometimes she has tried to take a bigger size because of her breasts, but then the place of the shoulder seams runs out too low. The length of the sleeves is also acceptable.

– I wish there was more room in plus size clothes for breasts and breasts.

Tuulia dreams that there would be more selection for plus size clothes. He thinks it’s important to consider different bodies.

Wear tight-fitting underwear

Well-fitting and beautiful underwear give Tuuli more self-confidence when dressing. You can stand on them and of course they also look good. It increases self-confidence.

– Nothing is as terrible as if the breasts are heavy or the underwear rolls down, the woman sums up.

The clothing selection for plus sizes is limited

Shopping for plus-sized people has not been made very easy in Finland. Only a few larger sizes are available.

The size categories vary between different brands, so you can never trust that the same sizes from different brands will fit in the same way.

– If you ever need to get some new clothes quickly, it’s usually a completely impossible task, Tuulia laments.

As a plus size, you often have to work harder to find clothes that fit and look good.

However, Tuulia feels that domestic brands have realized the problem and are striving for change by bringing more and more options, also in larger size categories.

– This makes me happy, but there is still a lot to do. The largest sizes of many brands are still quite small, and the selection of sizes is not always enough.

Over the years, shopping has become easier because Tuulia has become aware of her own style.

He also already knows which brand’s selection he can find suitable sized and beautiful clothes.
