National basketball player Tibor Pleiß missed the next triumph with Anadolu Istanbul.
A good three weeks after winning the EuroLeague title again, the German team lost the final for the Turkish championship against city rivals Fenerbahce. Anadolu lost 80:92 (35:41) in game four on Monday, the record champions lost the best-of-five series 1:3.
For the German internationals Danilo Barthel and Ismet Akpinar it was the first national championship title with Fenerbahce, but neither of them were on the floor in the decisive game. Pleiß, on the other hand, was one of the main actors, with 17 points (3 rebounds, 1 assist) he was his team’s top scorer.
Fenerbahce thus successfully took revenge for the past few years: in 2019 and 2021 Anadolu had won the final duel, in 2020 the season was canceled due to the pandemic. A look at the title list is also characterized by this Bosphorus derby: With 14 championships, Fenerbahce is again just behind Anadolu (15).
