Gerard Joling requested a reporter from Shownieuws yesterday, on Mother’s Day, not to ask questions about his recently deceased mother. “He’s still having a really hard time with it.”
The mother of Gerard Joling (61), Janny, died at the beginning of January after a short illness at the age of 92 from double pneumonia. Gerard has been quite open about this in the media so far, but yesterday, on Mother’s Day, he found it a bit too confrontational to be asked about it in front of the camera.
Gerard’s request
Gerard was present at the promotion party of FC Volendam, Jan Smit’s football club, and a Shownieuws camera team was also present. “The fact that he asked not to start about that, about Mother’s Day, is a writing on the wall,” says Private boss Evert Sankrediets at the desk.
He continues: “He still has a very hard time with it of course, with the death of his mother Janny. Those two were so close.”
football violence
Evert understands Gerard’s request. “I can imagine when it’s Mother’s Day for the first time, that you think: well, let me throw myself into the football violence of Volendam and not think about it for a while. The request was really like: let’s not talk about that for once.”
According to Evert, it is also time that companies do something about mailings with headlines such as: ‘Have you spoiled your mother yet?’ “I think they should think about that more often,” says the magazine maker.
