“I would say: start with the Louvre, then we’ll see where we end up.” There is no lack of enthusiasm at the Emmer CDA. The Christian Democrats, together with GroenLinks, ChristenUnie and D66, would like to accelerate because of the still vacant half of the old Biochron in the Rensenpark.
One half will be filled with the Center for Visual Arts (CBK), which will move to this location next year. That leaves roughly 1,100 square meters.
See whether or not a crowd-puller with international appeal can be placed there, party chairman René Wittendorp (CDA) urged the municipal council and the political groups with a motion.
Wittendorp visited the space that will partly be the new home of CBK during an open day a week and a half ago. “And to think that we still have such space. So we have already invested in it. Let that investment pay off and ensure that there is a cultural interpretation of a national or international level.”
Wittendorp reminded the rest of a presentation three years ago. “Then we saw a good ambition with Kröller Müller Emmen. Or make the Van Gogh year structural with an annex of the Gogh Museum. We should be able to do that too.”
Alderman Dewy Leal (Wakker Emmen) indicates that no concrete consideration has yet been given to a precise interpretation. “But you’re betting big. Think about researching what’s appropriate in that space first.”
Leal refers to other ideas that have passed in review in previous years. Like an annex of the Drents Museum.
“But perhaps a discotheque or a beer brewery would also fit”, she thought along. “Let’s first see what is possible at the location.”
Apart from Wakker Emmen and the VVD, other factions would also like to see the still vacant part of the former Biochron be filled in. With the heels over the ditch – a vote difference – the motion was passed.
