PlayStation 5 Pro: All information about release, design, price

Sony’s current console, the PS5, was launched in late 2020. Since then there have been rumors about the successor, the PlayStation 5 Pro. TECHBOOK collects all the information: When will the new console appear, how much does it cost and what can it do?

The PlayStation 5 is only a year and a half under its belt, but it’s still a rare commodity due to ongoing supply issues. And this despite the fact that Microsoft’s competition, the Xbox Series X, was launched at the same time. Maybe that’s why the fan community has been speculating intensely about the successor to the Sony console for quite some time. The PlayStation 5 Pro hasn’t been officially announced yet; but we are already collecting all the rumors and facts.

When is the PlayStation 5 Pro coming?

It is certain that the PS5 will have a successor. Whether it is the PlayStation 5 Pro, however, is not, but it is considered probable in expert circles. Some even assume that the console is already in development. After all, the previous generation also consists of the PlayStation 4 and the PS4 Pro (and the slimmed down version). The PlayStation 4 Pro was released in 2016, three years after the release of the 4 console in 2013.

Assuming a similar time frame, the PlayStation 5 Pro could appear as early as 2023. This is also indicated by a leak from the Chinese hardware manufacturer TCL Technology. The manufacturer recently held a presentation in which future console generations also played a role. A new generation 9.5 is included on one slide, which should also contain the Xbox counterpart in addition to a PS5 Pro. The presentation also mentions a possible release in 2023.

Here’s what we know about the PS5 Pro design

Nothing is known about a possible design of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The jump between the PS4 and its Pro version was quite clear, but the PS5 then broke new ground with its white, high-edged design. It is very likely that Sony will orientate itself more towards the PS5 than towards older consoles. However, fans also want a black version of the console.

That’s in the new Sony console

We don’t know much about the inner workings of a possible PlayStation 5 Pro yet. According to the leak already mentioned, the console could come with a 4K resolution between 60 and 120 FPS. That would even make rendering up to 8K possible. There is also talk of the recently leaked RX 7700 XT as a graphics card.

A promising patent appeared as early as December 2021, in which, among other things, two APUs (Accelerated Processing Units) could be seen. Several graphics chips in one console would enable completely new functionalities and a huge increase in performance. A cloud gaming function also emerges from the patent. The patent was submitted by Mark Cerny, the leading PS systems architect, which gives it even more weight.

Sony could also respond to the criticism of the PS5 and install a more efficient and, above all, quieter fan in a possible PlayStation 5 Pro.

That’s how much the PlayStation 5 could cost

Since there is no official information here either, one can only speculate about the price of the next Sony console. However, indications result from the pricing policy of the past. The PlayStation 4 came on the market with an RRP of 299.99 euros, the PS4 Pro then cost 100 euros more. The PS5, in turn, started at €499.99 – so could the PlayStation 5 Pro actually start at around €600? Insiders don’t think that’s out of the question, although you certainly have to consider the prices of the competition, namely the Xbox.
