Playing EM games without fans? “is off the table”

Uefa boss Aleksander Ceferin puts the host cities of the EM under pressure in the summer. He categorically rules out games without spectators. That could become a problem for Munich.

Despite the corona pandemic, Aleksander Ceferin is in favor of a European Championship with fans in the stadium.

“Every host city has to guarantee that fans are allowed to go to the games. The option of any game being played without fans is off the table,” said the president of the European football association Uefa on the English TV channel Sky.

For the German EM host city Munich, this could be difficult due to the Corona regulations. The Bavarian state capital is currently working on a concept for allowing fans into the stadium. This is currently not allowed for Bundesliga games. The final decision lies with the responsible health authority.

The EM will be held from June 11th to July 11th in a total of eleven European cities. Germany meets France, Portugal and Hungary in the preliminary round.
