Playful elements should make the center of Heerlen more lively | 1Limburg

In order to make the center of Heerlen more lively, playful elements will be added to the city at ten different locations this year. For the project ‘The City as Playground’, the municipality is working together with local entrepreneurs and organisations.

Residents of Heerlen could put forward ideas for this. On Monday, the ten projects that will actually be given a place in the center were presented.

One of those initiatives is ‘Feet of the Floor’ and will be located on the Morenhoek. There, passers-by at the dance school are encouraged to dance by street art and music. A QR code will also be placed on the pavement next to a tree at seven locations in Heerlen. By scanning the code, the tree tells the history of that location as a ‘Green Witness’.

On the Promenade, a chessboard is set up with large chess pieces and two chess tables with chairs. Another idea that is getting a place is the stray library. This should invite residents in various locations to read and thus stimulate the reading skills of residents.

Cultural alderman Jordy Clemens is happy with the initiatives: “Whoever walks through our city should smile more often or be surprised and amazed. No matter how old or young you are.”
