Maxime Meiland was asked to pose for Playboy just before the launch of her biography. “It does wobble a bit with the content of the book, but it would be a good stunt.”
Niek Stolker, the new editor-in-chief of Playboy, recently made an attempt to get Maxime Meiland on the cover of his men’s magazine. He approached Jan Dijkgraaf, the biographer of the Meilandjes, about this. “I received an app from Niek Stolker,” he says in his podcast Nasty Boys.
Bag of money
How did that go? Jan says: “Niek Stolker thought it would be a good idea to put Maxime Meiland on the cover of Playboy. Then of course you immediately think: Niek, you can’t afford that at all, but if he were to approach a Heleen van Royen, for example, he would simply ask for a bag of money and if that bag of money is big enough, she will do it.
He continues: “Women are like that, you might think, but that is not the case at all with Maxime Meiland. Because I wrote her book I know her. I interviewed her for dozens of hours.”
Naked iodocus
Maxime doesn’t like it, says Jan. He points to the dramatic story she does in her book. “Niek should have understood that someone who has such a story to tell about the suffering that women are inflicted on men, will not stand in her naked jodoku and a staple in her stomach in Playboy.”
Not for a lot of money either, Jan emphasises. “But I presented it properly to Maxime. That’s how I am. I am not the boss and not the manager. I’m just the middleman. I said, ‘I wouldn’t do it, regardless of whether you wanted to and regardless of the money, just don’t do it.’”
Good trick
What did Maxime say to that? “As with everything, she totally agreed with me. Also that she does go to Coffee Time, Time for MAX and Humberto, but not Playboy, fuck off.”
“Niek understood, but he said: ‘It is a bit of a struggle, the content of the book, but it would be a good stunt.’ I said: ‘Yes, that’s right, but not with my Maxime.’”
E bike
Incidentally, Jan is not that impressed with Playboy anyway. According to him, the edition is very limited. “I think if he buys an e-bike, he can just bring it to the subscribers by bike.”
