For the time being, the municipality of Emmen refuses to have two concrete colossus removed from the Gantel in Klazienaveen. The fermentation tanks are a thorn in the side of the neighboring plant nursery, which has approached the Council of State to get her right.
The bins are the start of what should become a bio-fermentation plant and combined heat and power plant. The concrete foundation was already there before the fermentation company was in possession of a permit. However, the municipality refused to act because it was already preparing the paperwork. The permit has now been granted.
The plant nursery went to court, which ruled in their favour, but because the project has been granted a permit, the court is now examining the permit that has now been granted. In the meantime, proceedings are pending before the Council of State, in the hope that it will order the concrete containers to be demolished.
With the biodigester and the wood-fired combined heat and power plant, energy can be supplied to surrounding horticultural and other companies. These, in turn, can dispose of their waste at the fermentation plant.
The Council of State will rule within a few weeks.
