Plans to widen the A58, A2 and A67 have been postponed

The Ministry of Infrastructure is pausing seventeen projects, partly because of the nitrogen problem. In Brabant, this includes the widening of the A58 between Eindhoven and Tilburg, the A67 between Eindhoven and Geldrop and the A2 near Den Bosch.

There are fourteen roads and three waterways in total. Projects that make N-roads safer are excluded. Projects will also continue that will enable the accessibility of 400,000 homes that will be built up to and including 2030. For Minister Mark Harbers (Infrastructure) it feels ‘very double’.

Saves 4 billion euros
He finds it ‘disappointing’ that the projects are not going ahead, but ‘on the other hand, we also see that it is not possible in the short term’.

The minister had already announced earlier this year that projects would be paused because there is currently no room for nitrogen. However, the government will continue with maintenance of existing infrastructure. By now pausing these seventeen projects, a total of 4 billion euros will be released.

Other projects
In addition to the A2, A67 and A58, other projects are also affected in the province. Such as tackling the A15 between Papendrecht and Gorinchem and refurbishing the Hoevelaken interchange.

Projects that are canceled for the time being:

  • A15 Papendrecht – Gorinchem
  • A2 Deil-‘s Hertogenbosch-Vught
  • Government contribution Northern Randweg Utrecht
  • InnovA58 Annabosch-Galder
  • Hedging innovation risks InnovA58
  • A67 Leenderheide – Geldrop
  • A1 / A35 Junction Azelo – Buren
  • A1 / A28 Hoevelaken junction
  • Waterway IJsselmeer – Meppel
