Plans for the ‘meat tax’ can go into the meat grinder | Inland

Earlier, Minister Henk Staghouwer (Agriculture) suggested investigating ‘price incentives’ with the aim of getting people to eat less meat. The extra money would be used, among other things, to help farmers switch to more sustainable forms of agriculture.

The plans for an extra levy were not met with much success in parliament, partly because of the sharp rise in food prices. VVD and CDA were also not waiting for it, it turned out afterwards. However, they do not oppose the investigation.

Now those parties have turned around and support the motion of the PVV, which calls for no meat tax to be introduced in any case. An investigation therefore seems pointless. SP, SGP, Denk, FvD, JA21, Bij1, BBB, Groep Van Haga and Pieter Omtzigt also speak out against the introduction of the tax increase.
