Plans for seven Alteveer homes have to be scrapped by the municipality

Plans for seven homes in Alteveer in North Drenthe must be adjusted. The municipality of Noordenveld does not believe the arrival of seven homes is appropriate in the small village.

The application for the homes on the Prins Willem Alexanderhoeve site dates back to 2021. The council at the time decided that a maximum of seven homes may be built.

According to the current councilor Jos Darwinkel (Municipal Interests), these homes could only be built if proper consultation was held with the surrounding area and the province of Drenthe. According to the municipality, this has not been done sufficiently.

“The project developer is not in tune with the neighborhood,” he concludes. But the main argument for asking the project developer to come up with a new plan lies in the spatial plan. “We certainly think homes are suitable in Alteveer, but this is too large a number,” says Darwinkel.

That conclusion is shared by at least part of the population of Alteveer. A full-page advertisement recently appeared in a regional newspaper calling on the project developer to withdraw the plans. For a village like Alteveer, where less than a hundred people live, the arrival of seven homes would have a significant impact.

The Prins Willem Alexanderhoeve is currently used as an emergency shelter for about forty women and children, mainly of Syrian descent. This care is planned until June 1 of this year. In addition, the De Verwondering comprehensive primary school is still located in the Prins Willem Alexanderhoeve. The school – which is attempting to become a public school – would like to remain in Alteveer.

That is currently also possible, because the social function on the site remains. “We will continue discussions with the owner about the future of the site,” says Darwinkel. “As a municipality, we think that quite a bit can be done and that this is a nice location for housing. But we have to arrive at a supported whole that fits in with the village.”
