Construction of the first part of Oostpoort has already started. The first hundred homes will be built on Diakenhuisweg in the Zuiderpolder district. This concerns sustainable timber construction for social housing. These are smaller apartments for one or two people.

Construction of the remaining eight hundred homes will begin in 2028. Forty percent of this will be social rent. Another forty percent will be ‘medium expensive’, the rest will be in the private sector.

The area around Haarlem-Spaarnwoude station is now mainly the access road to the city from Rotterpolderplein on the A9. Because there is so much traffic, it is difficult to build homes due to the emissions from motorized traffic.

Kegge-Stastok viaduct

That is why, among other things, the Kegge-Stastok viaduct must be adjusted. Traffic will soon be guided from the N200 to the Amsterdamsevaart via a right-angled bend. This creates space for homes. A new bicycle bridge will be built over the railway at the station itself. The existing pedestrian bridge will be made less steep.

Traffic from Zuiderpolder can drive via the viaduct to the Waarderpolder business park or via the Camera Obscuraweg to the Amsterdamsevaart.

Shelter Ukrainians

Next to the current P+R location in the Waarderpolder there are 63 temporary homes. About 125 war refugees from Ukraine are accommodated there.

Because there is no prospect of peace in that country for the time being, these houses will remain standing until the summer of 2027. The Veerpad along the railway on the side of the business park should become a green route towards the Veerplas and Spaarnwoude recreational areas.

The plans will be available for inspection from Friday, including in the municipality’s Public Hall. The consultation period ends on February 2, 2026. The new construction around Haarlem-Spaarnwoude station should start in 2028. The last parts will then be delivered in 2035.
