Plane with biofuel lands at Groningen Airport Eelde . for the first time

A special moment this afternoon: a plane that was partly filled with biofuel landed at Groningen Airport Eelde. The plane was welcomed with a traditional water salute on arrival.

On the plane was a delegation from Groningen that went on an innovation mission to Sweden and Finland. During the visit to those countries, topics such as energy, sustainable mobility, education and innovation were discussed. The aircraft was 39 percent filled with a sustainable aviation fuel, called SAF: Sustainable Aviation Fuel. This fuel is made from renewable raw materials and saves about eighty percent in CO2 in the air compared to fossil kerosene.

Meiltje de Groot, director of Groningen Airport Eelde: “Flying with this sustainable fuel is an important step in making aviation more sustainable. This fits in well with the sustainable ambitions of Groningen Airport Eelde and flying on synthetic hydrogen.”
