Plan revealed with Sven Mislintat

After the integration of Sami Khedira and Philipp Lahm at VfB Stuttgart, the future of sports director Sven Mislintat seemed to be hanging in the balance. But apparently the Swabians are pursuing a very clear plan with the long-standing BVB chief scout.

It was a real drumbeat in terms of personnel that VfB Stuttgart announced at their general meeting in the Porsche Arena on Sunday.

The 2014 world champions Sami Khedira and Philipp Lahm will support CEO Alexander Wehrle and the club management as advisors on sporting issues.

Ex-professional Christian Gentner is also hired as head of the licensed players team in the Ländle.

“No more space” for Sven Mislintat at VfB Stuttgart?

The club had “found the right personalities,” Wehrle enthused proudly. “I am very pleased that you are committed to VfB.”

Also present at the announcement of the triple personnel coup was sports director Sven Mislintat, whose powers will be curtailed by the signing of Khedira and Lahm.

“The end of Mislintat”, “Bild” commented on this development, for the 49-year-old there was “no more room” at VfB.

That is the plan of VfB Stuttgart with Sven Mislintat

However, those responsible in Stuttgart apparently see it differently. According to the “kicker”, Mislintat’s work is valued and rewarded internally, and they “neither want to put him off nor scare him away”. They want to start talks about extending his contract, which expires in 2023, in the near future.

In view of the unresolved question of the future, Mislintat appears relaxed.

“That doesn’t worry me. I know pretty well what I’ve done for VfB for a job so far and I think I’m a good choice. I’m completely relaxed. I know my worth,” he said on Sunday. There is “no deadline” for talks with the club.
